Lee Abbey

From our 2000 trip

Our 'Away weekend' at Lee Abbey was very successful, everyone attending  arrived on the evening of Friday 20th October, some a lot later than others due to extended work commitments. There will be a report on the weekend activities, which included walking, horse riding, and traveling in an open carriage across Exmore, as soon as someone has written it! In the mean time enjoy a few of the pictures taken at this truly beautiful part of the country.

Our last photo call, I think we are all in. We bushwacked a fellow guest to take a 'group' shot and he ended taking 8 to 10 shots as every body wanted a last picture from a splendid weekend.

THE CHRISTIAN HOLIDAY AND CONFERENCE CENTRE

On 20th - 22nd October, a group from St Michael’s congregation went to Lee Abbey in Lynton, north Devon for our Parish Weekend. Below are comments from some who have never been on a Church weekend before, and one who has.

48 hours with 54 of us, plus 50 from Tring. cared for by 88 strong community of Lee Abbey, brought a greater meaning to the theme “God’s Family". The groups gelled, putting into practice and learning about our study themes for the weekend “Be loving”, “Be family”, “Be open.” We brought away spiritually more than we took with us - sharing with others brings the reality that “God’s Family” spreads much further than the walls of St Michael’s

Relationships - encourage and affirm one another, No criticism or grumbling. Listen to God - focus & listen corporately in silence. Love the pasteur so that he says “what is this congregation doing’?” What is out relationship with the world -        do they say ‘see how these Christians love one another?'

Very enjoyable and worth the arduous journey! We had a very warm welcome and the Community were helpful and pleasant. ‘The programme was excellent - one could listen to Bob Payne all day. He had just the right amount of humour and the ability to drive his point home, making you think. There was no pressure to do any more than we wanted to. We had perfect weather and beautiful surroundings.

A wonderful experience. Love, fellowship and happiness were there. Bob Payne, our mentor, showed us we must avoid divisions in the Church Family. We must be more loving and open - we can’t like everyone but we do have to love them. We must be united to do God’s will, not our own. The weather was wonderful!

The vet can tell a lot about the owner when looking at the dog.

The world can tell a lot about the church when looking at the Christians.
