| The
sidesman was taking the collection at a fashionable London church. |
| He
waited patiently while the visitor fumbled in his pocket. |
| At
last the visitor sighed and gave up, muttering, "I can't find
any small |
| change." |
| "That's
quite all right, sir," replied the sidesman. |
| "It
isn't small change that we want." |

| THE
TWENTY- THIRD CHANNEL |
| |
| The
TV is my shepherd, I shall not want, |
| |
| it
makes me lie down on the sofa |
| |
| it
leads me away from the faith |
| |
| it
destroys my soul |
| |
| it
leads me in the paths of sex and violence |
| |
| for
the sponsor's sake. |
| |
| Yea,
though I walk in the shadow of my responsibilities |
| |
| There
will be no interuption |
| |
| For
the TV is with me |
| |
| In
the presence of my worldliness. |
| |
| It
anoints my head with humanism and consumerism. |
| |
| My
covetousness runneth over. |
| |
| Surely
lazines and ignorance |
| |
| shall
follow me all the days of my life |
| |
| And
I shall dwell in the house |
| |
| Watching
TV for ever. |
| |
| |
| Finally |
| A
lady left a note in her will that she should be cremated - and her
ashes |
| scattered
over Harrods to ensure that her daughter visited her at least |
| twice
a week. |
